Taroudant is a city in the Sous Valley in southern Morocco. It is situated east of Agadir on the road to Ouarzazte and the Sahar desert and south of Marrakech. The town is known as a small Marrakesh with its surrounding rampart. In the sixteenth century, The Saadians briefly used Taroudant as a capital before they moved onwards to Marrakech,
Taroudant is famous for its local crafts, including jewellery and carpets.

The synagogue of Arazan, a small village near Taroudant, was rediscovered in the 1980s.
At that time, it was still being taken care of by Harim, an Amazigh of the city who kept his keys for decades.
The interior of the synagogue was filled with straw; there were also inscriptions in Hebrew and an ancient arch for the scrolls of the Torah.
